Please take all your litter home... it is dangerous!

Outdoor pursuits in the countryside are greatly enhanced by a clean, litter-free, environment.

Walking, hiking, dog walking, photography, wild flower meadows, rivers, canals, sketching, hills, and mountains all to be enjoyed together with the birds and wildlife such as deer, foxes, badgers and even an otter if you are extremely lucky.

You can camp out [without any facilities] for nothing and in relative peace, as long as you choose the right place and not a farmers field full of cattle or sheep, horses or goats, and do avoid the crops such as wheat, corn, and barley!

Another pursuit which is extremely popular - and not mentioned above - is fishing.

This intel is mainly to make a plea to all fishermen to take home ALL their gear and rubbish, including most importantly any snagged/broken fishing line. This line and any hooks attached to it are extremely dangerous to wildlife - as are bottles, cans, ring pulls, plastic bags, and various other accoutrements that are taken out for consumption during your stay outside.

I always think that if you can take the full bottles etcetera which will be quite heavy - then the empties will be really light to take home. After all the full items had to be packed into something, just put the empties into the same carrier.

The pain and suffering caused to swans and other waterfowl and small mammals from rubbish is horrific. And the death from starvation doesn't bear thought.

Please, please, please, take ALL your rubbish home... and clear your patch leaving it as clean, or cleaner than when you arrived. You will then be extremely welcome.

This seems to be a problem that's bigger in the UK than other countries. There are plenty of litter bins, but it's almost as though some people in Britain drop litter as a kind of act of defiance. I've seen litter (the polystyrene kebab variety) dropped on the pavement halfway between two litter bins placed only 10 yards apart!
