Dog Training and Obedience

The quoted part from one of my dog blogs on the correct attitude to training is just a small introduction to the wealth of free information contained within the four dog blogs.

As with all blogs you'll find the most 'on target' and relevant posts are at the very beginning of the archives this one is from the first page of archives... reading blogs "backwards" is, in my opinion, the best way to find out if the blog is going to contain helpful information for your own particular interest in the subject!

By "backwards" in the case of these blogs, I mean that you begin at February 2007 in the archives and then go on to March and so forth...

"How to Develop the correct attitude for training your dog or puppy...

The vital importance of understanding the doggy mind cannot be over-emphasised! Not understanding will lead to incorrect, unnecessary, and totally ineffective training methods. The ability of the owner is in question here... not the ability of the dog to understand. You, the owner, must know HOW to train, WHEN to train, and WHICH WAY to train.

You MUST be consistent, and you MUST train with kindness. The training MUST be pleasurable for your dog.

If you do not feel that you have ALL the knowledge to train a new dog properly [and even if you do, after all new and enlightened methods are often appearing] then get hold of some books, courses, and videos on the right way to train... also consider a residential course.

I will be including links to various Kennel Club websites in a later article... they will help you locate reliable trainers.

If you cannot wait for the Kennel Club websites to appear here... just go over to Dog Agility Training where you can locate the web addresses!"
